This chestnut chestnut crook is perhaps the most popular of all walking sticks. This version is offered subject to availability because of its rare Congo effect appearance. These walking sticks are great value for money.

This walking stick measures 92cm in height.

To measure someone for a walking stick, ask them to stand with their weight evenly on both feet, looking straight ahead and with their arms relaxed by their sides. You then need to measure from the floor to the prominent bone of the wrist. This is the length of walking stick required. Please note this is just a rule of thumb. If the person has special needs, they may need to be measured by a medical professional. Alternatively they may have personal preferences for a longer or shorter walking stick.

Our chestnut sticks are obtained from coppiced woods. The raw material is peeled and steamed into the crook shape, forming the most traditional of sticks.

Coppicing is a traditional forestry technique and the method used to produce rustic walking sticks. A deciduous tree such as ash or chestnut is sawn in two, whereupon the part remaining rooted in the ground produces a number of new shoots. Within a few years, these grow large enough to form walking sticks. They are then cut from the tree and the process begins again.

The rounded handle of a knob stick is fashioned from part of the original tree's trunk; they do in fact grow upside down.

Thumbsticks are grown in the same way except that the V-shaped handle is formed by a naturally occurring fork in the new shoot.

Coppicing is the ultimate technique for sustainable woodland!

Bell shaped rubber walking stick ferrule type C CThere are several different types of walking stick ferrule, most of which are listed here. Each ferrule is available in a number of different diameters, simply choose your preferred width from the pull down menu below. This bell shaped ferrule is our most popular shape. It is made of black rubber and has a steel washer insert. For people who use their walking stick in ernest, rather than just as a fashion accessory, good tread is vital. To ensure that your walking stick does not slip on wet or smooth surfaces, it is important to replace the rubber ferrule frequently. For those who have a decorative cane with a horn or metal ferrule, serious consideration should be given to covering this with a rubber ferrule, if the cane is to be used for support.Add Bell shaped rubber walking stick ferrule type C
